Sins of My Father by Raquel Riley

Wilder and I celebrated Christmas quietly. With our neighbors out of town visiting family, it was just the two of us and a marathon of Christmas movies. We ate lasagna, opened presents, and made love. It was perfect. We rang in the new year much the same way, which suited us just fine.
Wilderâs fall semester bled into spring, and Austin and Marcus were busy with spring training. We rarely saw them but in passing, a wave hello as we pulled in the driveway. I noticed a difference in Wilder. He was quieter. Without his partner in crime, he didnât shine as brightly or laugh as loud as he used to.
Probably most alarming was when he found a silly excuse to miss out on the January Jelly festival.
Desperate to see him smile again, I suggested, âLetâs go away this weekend. Maybe we can rent a cabin at the base of the mountain and do some hiking.â
âReally? That sounds awesome. I would love that! Iâll go start packing right now.â
âWild,â I called out. âWe donât leave for four more days.â
âThatâs okay! Iâm like a Boy Scout, always prepared.â
I donât think I had ever met anyone who was less like a Boy Scout than my son, but I wisely kept my mouth shut. If he was excited, I was happy.
We left early Friday morning for the cabin.
We did not hike.
Not an eighth of a mile down the trail, Wilder had a cramp in his foot. He was panting and breathless, sweating despite the chilly temperature. My boy was not an athletic outdoorsman. Not at all.
âYou would think with all the sex we have that I would be in better shape, right?â
I shook my head in disbelief. âIâm twice your age and I haven't even broken a sweat.â
âWhatever, grandpa. Letâs go back to the cabin and use the hot tub.â
He was absolutely impossible. If he were anybody else, I would be irritated beyond reason or consider them absurd. But Wilder had a way of charming me down to my soul. It didnât take much for his antics to make me smile.
We didnât even change into our bathing suits, just stripped out of our hiking gear and climbed in the hot tub naked. Wilder immediately gravitated toward my lap, straddling my thighs. He wrapped his arms around my neck, teasing my throat and chest with nibbles and kisses.
âThis is absolutely perfect. Thanks for bringing me here.â
âItâs worth it to see you smiling again.â
âYeah, Iâve been a real Debbie-downer lately, havenât I?â
âHas something been bothering you?â
Tendrils of steam rose from the waterâs surface and wrapped around us, enveloping us in a thick cocoon of mist. His pale skin, made even ghostlier by a winter without sun, turned pink from the heat, reminding me of a sweet little cherub. But there was nothing sweet or cherubic about his erection poking into my stomach.
âIâve been doing a lot of thinking lately. Okay, I donât mean for this to sound ridiculous, but I feel like Iâm entering a new phase of my life.
